How the Belgian Pro League works

The Belgian Pro League comprises 16 clubs, each playing a regular season of 30 matchdays — one home and one away against every other side. The season runs from late summer through to early spring, with a winter break typically in December and January. Points are awarded on the standard three-for-a-win, one-for-a-draw basis.

After the regular season, the league splits into two championship play-off groups. The top six sides enter the Champions Play-offs, carrying forward half their regular-season points (rounded down). These six teams play each other twice more, and the leader after ten additional matches is crowned Belgian champion. The champion qualifies for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, while the runner-up and third-placed side enter the UEFA Europa League or Europa Conference League qualifiers, depending on the final standings and cup results.

The clubs finishing 7th through 12th in the regular season contest the Europa League Play-offs, with the winner earning a spot in European qualifying. The bottom-four sides (13th–16th) do not enter any post-season play-off; the 16th-placed team is relegated directly to the Challenger Pro League. The 15th-placed side faces a relegation play-off against a team from the second tier.

How to read the fixtures

All kickoff times are displayed in UK time (GMT/BST) as detected by your browser, and adjusted automatically for daylight saving. Each matchday is grouped by round number, with fixtures listed chronologically. If a match is postponed, it will be rescheduled to a later date, and the fixture will remain in the schedule with the new time until confirmed.

The data refreshes every 60 seconds during matchdays, ensuring scores and timings stay up to date. No page reload is needed; the module updates in place.

Results & what they mean

Each match result is shown as a final score. A win earns three points, a draw one point, and a loss none. Results feed directly into the league table, which is sorted first by points, then by goal difference, goals scored, and head-to-head record between tied teams. In the Champions Play-offs, points from the regular season are halved before the mini-league begins, so the table resets in a sense.

Tiebreakers for the title, European qualification, and relegation are determined by the same criteria, with play-off matches used only if two teams cannot be separated after all applicable tiebreakers.

Where the data comes from

Match and fixture data are sourced from official Belgian Pro League public feeds and verified by the MatchWire data desk against league publications and club communications. Frequently asked questions

When does the Belgian Pro League season start and end?

The regular season typically begins in late July or early August and concludes in March or April, followed by play-offs in April and May. Exact dates vary each year.

How many teams are promoted and relegated each season?

One team is relegated directly (16th place), and the 15th-placed team enters a relegation play-off against a side from the Challenger Pro League. The second-tier champion is promoted automatically.

What happens if two teams finish level on points in the table?

Teams are separated first by goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head record. If still tied, a play-off match may be used to decide positions such as the title or European qualification.

How often is the live fixture module updated?

During matchdays, the module refreshes every 60 seconds. At other times, data updates at least daily or whenever official sources release new information.

Can I see historical results from previous seasons on this page?

This page shows fixtures and results for the current campaign only. Historical data and past seasons are available through our matches archive.
